Week 1
Introduction:
This week you will learn about some basics for teaching reading. The Basic Reading Inventory (BRI) will be examined as a tool for reading assessment and you will practice administration and scoring it on student. The purpose and usefulness of Reading Inventories will be explored.  

Everyone will create a blog to use for this course as a means of sharing information and collaboration.
Objectives for this week (from Basic Course Information document):
1.     Practice administering an informal reading inventory, the Basic Reading Inventory.
2.     Synthesize results of the sample BRI in the text.  
3.     Analyze results of the BRI you administered to your practice student.

Instructions for the assessment as they will appear in Blackboard
Practice administering the BRI to a student subject. Videotape the last part of the test that asks the student to read the passage and answer the comprehension questions. Post the video.
Review the BRI data that was presented in the text about the subject student Logan (97).  Analyze the summary of the student’s reading performance and create a list that includes three strengths and three weaknesses that Logan demonstrated in reading.  
Review the BRI data that you collected on your student subject.  Apply your BRI knowledge and write a summary of your student’s reading strengths and weaknesses.
